Fox Hunting

OK well, something not strictly a green issue, although it is linked. It's a subject that, especially in the UK, is always bubbling on the surface of people's thoughts. Fox hunting.

Now, I'm strictly anti fox hunting, for obvious reasons to anyone with half an ounce of conscience and compassion for all things living.

Let me just say how i feel on the subject. It's a sport from way back when toffs ruled the land. They lauded about on their horses and tweed jackets thinking nothing of hunting an animal to death, letting their dogs chase and then savage an animal half their size to death all whilst sitting on their horses blowing their horns. Not one to one, man on animal, but instead, in a large group of horses together with a larger pack of dogs. So there you have it, 1 fox, against god knows how many foxes and hounds. Oh yeah, that's so "upper-class" isn't it.

2005 ended it, a ban was imposed in England and Wales, well sort of, hunts still go on, through loop-holes in the ban. You can still hunt foxes, as long as you don't let the dogs kill them, you can still hunt if you use a bird of prey, etc etc etc So it still goes on to this day, but now, many more people are aware of what goes on at these hunts, thanks to protests and thanks to organisations such as the RSPCA and the League against Cruel Sports, please support them!

Now there is a massive amount of information out there on fox hunting, which I'm not going to go into. But a few facts remain...

Fox hunting IS cruel

Fox hunting IS class-orientated-in other words its usually so called "upper-class" folk who indulge in it-oh yeah, as they are oh so above everything/everyone

Fox hunting belongs in the past and has no place in a modern society such as ours

Fox hunters are arrogant-no really-they are-going about the place with their "Fight the prejudice-fight ban" stickers

How people, still in this day in age can think they are "above" certain animals is beyond me. Its an arrogant attitude and is one of the big problems of today, this thing of humans being top and being able to do what they want with the Earth. We weren't here first, and we are not as advanced as you might think! Wow, we can make things like buildings etc, so what, we are not king of all animals at all.

So the other day, in the Lake District, i clapped eyes on a car with a pro fox hunting sticker...so i got out and told them what i thought of them and took a photo which you can see above! Boy i would have LOVED to see their reaction :)

As one of the main anti-hunting groups in the UK, the League Against Cruel Sports is presumed to put animal welfare at the centre of its argument against the activity. However, five people have left the organisation - two of which are chief executives - in protest at its disgraceful behaviour.

Two Chief Executives, a Chairman, a Chief Officer and an undercover investigator have left the League opposing a ban [on hunting with hounds]on animal welfare grounds. Graham Sirl, James Barrington, Richard Course and Miles Cooper all realised that the company has no interest in animal welfare when running it's campaigns.

In an article published in August 2002, Mr Cooper concludes, ”That the League is responsible for briefing and guiding MPs is worrying enough, given its inability to mount well balanced argument which takes full account of the implications. More worryingly still is the prospect that this Labour Government could seriously contemplate the abolition of ‘sport’ hunting given the likely animal welfare implications and the Leagues clear long-term aim with regard to shooting.”

When describing the effect of a ban on hunting Graham Sirl wrote, in a published letter, that it “…will inevitably lead to an increase in activities such as fox, deer and hare drives. This will be nothing short of indiscriminate slaughter.”

Richard Course, in his submission to the Burns Inquiry, wrote; “The scent hunting or tracking down of fox hunting cause no stress or no trauma to the fox who must be totally unaware of this major part of the hunt. How the fox is located is totally irrelevant to animal welfare considerations. It took me ten years to realise this irrefutable fact – others will never realise it because bigotry, prejudice, narrow mindedness, class animosity and ignorance blind people to the truth.”

A ban on hunting is for animal welfare purposes? Rubbish. We know it, the League Against Cruel Sports know it and Labour MPs know it.

Comments by ex-members of the League Against Cruel Sports:

"After 13 years of discussing and debating this issue I found it impossible to ignore the truth and facts about hunting. I have come to despise the League Against Cruel Sports, even though I was its Chairman and Chief Executive, simply because these people know as well as I do that the abolition of hunting will not make any difference to the welfare of foxes, hares or deer."
Richard Course
Former Chairman and Executive Director of the League Against Cruel Sports for thirteen years. Commenting in April 1998.

"Hunting is part of the country life and destroying it will put a lot of people out of work and be worse for the animals. They will have to be shot instead - and that means many will be wounded. We kill them outright."
Liz White
Ex saboteur and former member of the League Against Cruel Sports who now hunts. 17 March 2003.

"What is often missing from the argument is a willingness to look at the full picture and to discuss the repercussions of a ban. One thing is certain: if hunting with dogs is to be proscribed, other methods to kill foxes currently in use will take its place. These methods are not all preferable to hunting as far as the suffering of animals is concerned and some will be harder, if not impossible, to bring to account."
James Barrington
Executive Director of the League Against Cruel Sports from 1988 to December 1995. Tribune - 2nd May 200.

"Take away hunting and the management system will break down. Over the years, and many meetings with landowners and others, I have come to the conclusion that in the event of a total hunt ban, the deer population will be decimated. This view is shared by many, including some who remain independent on the hunting issue."
Graham Sirl
Head of West Country Operations for the League Against Cruel Sports for nine years, and leaving in May 2001. Letter to regional press - 10th May 2001.

"I am aware that few of the total number of foxes killed each year are, in fact, accounted for by hunting with hounds, but that doesn’t make it any less a reasonable method of control. Compared with shooting, gassing and trapping – which are often indiscriminate, often inefficient and clearly detrimental to other wildlife – give me hunting any day."
Mark Halford
Ex hunt saboteur and former member of the LACS and Hunt Saboteurs Association. Daily Telegraph – 8th April 2000.

"I urge your readers to think carefully about the likely animal welfare implications of a ban on ‘sport’ hunting. For those who genuinely seek improvements all is not lost however. Indeed, by placing all hunting under the strict control of a statutory licensing system, and by amending existing legislation, it will be possible to generally improve wild mammal welfare as opposed to allowing the current situation to degenerate into chaos."
Miles Cooper
Representative and investigator for the Hunt Saboteurs Association, the League Against Cruel Sports, the International Fund for Animal Welfare and the Campaign for Protection of Hunted Animals for twelve years, leaving in May 2002. Letter to regional press - July 2002.

I hate hunting, i mean what is the point?? Hunting a poor animal to death that basically has no hope in hell of escaping the hounds or the awful people on horses that call themselves "the upper class" i think its a complete joke! I thought these type of people were supposed to have taste and have class?? Well i dont see any class in ripping a helpless animal to death class! I would take great pleasure in doing exactly what they do to a fox to them..sorry but its true..they all deserve it, i mean after all they dont give any thought to a fox do they?? ..If anyone can give me a website that does anti-hunt stick i would be most grateful, as im getting a bit sick of seeing all the "keep hunting" and "fight the ban" stickers on their so upper class 4x4!!! Thank you

It appears that David Cameron will want to repeal the Hunting Act if they are in government.

He claims he is 'green'. He is not. If he were, he would let all animals in the countryside live their lives. Something must be done to stop the outdated ARISTOCRATICS meeting in their equally outdated red jackets which reads 'ARISTOCRATIC' without them saying a word; not that they do keep quiet. They roam through the countryside, anywhere they please, as ruthless 'gangs', seeking pleasure in the hope of torturing animals and killing them in the most disgusting manner.

It must be put a stop to. The conservatives should be challenged on this RIGHT NOW. It is FAR MORE IMPORTANT to stop cruelty to animals than the amounts of money that MPs have spent; not that I agree with that but in perspective the CRUELTY TO ANIMALS HAS TO STOP, AS A PRIORITY.

CHALLENGE THE CONSERVATIVE RIGHT NOW, IF YOU CAN AND STOP THE 'GANGS' (hunt) BEING ALLOWED TO MEET ANY MORE.

To the person who said "you have obviously not been on a hunt"
I don't think people need to go on a hunt to see how barbaric it is. Grown men, women and even their children chasing a poor animal, which is running for its life, to eventually be ripped apart, if it doesn't escape! Thats if the fox is cannot escape. What sort of sicko would take their children to watch an animal being killed. Hunt Sabs save lives! As long as they exist we can fight the hunters! :) Hunter scum!
